"The Soul of Broadway” celebrates famous tunes from a number of Great White Way “soul” musicals and characters
--- from the classics of Porgy and Bess and Big River to showstoppers from Dreamgirls and Ain’t Misbehavin’
and the most recent hits from The Color Purple and Passing Strange. But it doesn’t stop there. Audiences will be
thrilled by standards from classic musicals such as My Fair Lady and Gypsy performed like never before with soul
interpretations.
The cast of “The Soul of Broadway” features the return of two performers to Theater Works --- Chanel Bragg
(Extremities) and Mitchell Vantrease (West Side Story) --- and five newcomers to Theater Works and the Peoria
Center for the Performing Arts, Matravius Avent, Brittany Bradford, Tenisha Baca, Miguel Jackson and Myles
Vann.
“I’m very excited for these songs, which many people are familiar with, to come to life with the most incredible
people I’ve ever work with,” said Vantrease, a creator of the show and Glendale resident.
Jackson agrees.
“This show is going to feature a bunch of young, fresh and up and coming faces, who lend their old souls to the
‘Soul of Broadway’,” said Jackson, a Goodyear resident, who appeared this season in productions of It’s Only Life
and Ragtime.
